| Can't you just feel the humidity? |
This first week of the year saw the first cyclone of the season pass by us! The eye of Cyclone Dumile was a couple hundred kilometers to our west, but it sure caused lots of wind, rain, and very turbulent seas. Even some damage to trees, a boat and a temporary patio at a nearby hotel. Shelly braved the elements to take these photos just outside our sea wall. We were amazed by the incredible power of the angry ocean! We made all the preparations for a storm, like bringing patio furniture indoors and closing shutters very tight; fortunately we were able to stay hunkered down at home, and re-open the storm shutters by mid morning. A cyclone is not something we want to experience frequently, but we have been very impressed at how prepared Mauritians are for them. Nothing beats learning from experience!
