Damon at the Sandpiper Triathlon

Shirtless Damon

We're proud of Damon and his academic and athletic endeavors.  On Sunday, he took part in the 2575 Club Med Sandpiper Bay Triathlon, along with his University of Miami Tricanes triathlon club.  Running 3.1 miles, biking nearly 12.5 miles, and swimming nearly 1/2 mile in an hour and three minutes, Damon took first among the Tricanes, and 9th in the Collegiate Division overall.  All that success, and he's filling his days with a demanding last semester of college, a job at a local engineering firm, and a mega-job search!  Some proud parents? You betcha.

Dance Diplomacy: East Meets West(ern)

For Valentines Day, Shelly and I got 6 months of dance lessons for each other!  Our goal:  to learn salsa, cha cha, samba, mambo, cumbia, merengue and all the other wonderful Latin dances before we move to South America! So, after a couple weeks of mambo lessons, our dance instructor invited us to a social dance where his students spent a Sunday afternoon dancing in one of Mauritius' lovely resorts!  Most of the dancers were Chinese-Mauritians, and the theme was Western . . . dancers wore Country Western garb . . . plaid shirts, cowboy hats, boots, and bandanas.  It was a blast seeing so many happy dancers, who love our US Western dances!  Two step, waltzes, line dance, and cotton eyed joe.  We could have easily been at ABQ's Caravan East club on Central!  We'll keep you posted on our dance progress, but so far it's just plain fun!

Kuddling Kangaroos

We had a wonderful time at Caversham Wildlife Park in Perth, Australia.  This is a fabulous family owned private nature preserve whose owners take tender loving care of a variety of animals native to Australia.  Click here for the website.  If you are ever in Perth, it is a unique and magical place to spend the day!  We loved getting up close and personal with wallabies, wombats, koalas, and kangaroos.  Took lots of pictures---we will share in the blog.  Today, kuddling kangaroos!!!

Midsummer Sunsets!

Seems like each night's summer sunset is better than the night before.  We can't stop looking or taking pictures.  These are views from tonight's sunset in our back yard.  They take our breath away!  You?

Mardi Gras Party!

We had a little party for some friends about to depart to new posts---themed as "Mardi Gras", we were so fortunate that friends Joe and Jennie brought us festive beads and decorations from the U.S. Everyone pitched in potluck style, and the weather cooperated, making it a very nice day! Moving all over the world is part of this work, and so is enjoying and celebrating our friendships.  Best wishes to our traveling friends, and laissez les bons temps rouler!
Yum!  Great cookies!
