The Valley of Longevity--Vilcabamba, Ecuador

Mother Earth at Madre Tierra
Spending a relaxing weekend in Vilcabamba, in southern Ecuador . . . known worldwide for the longevity of some of its senior citizens.  A quiet, tranquil valley with good water, soil, pesticide-free crops, and a laid back lifestyle. A remarkable number of the town's denizens have lived to well over 100 years of age.  In the 1970's it became a popular destination for U.S. citizens looking for natural healing and healthy lifestyles.  There are many, many aging hippies here adding to the eclectic nature of the place.  We are staying in a wonderful eco-lodge with a terrific spa and healthy, tasty food, Madre Tierra Resort and Spa.  Imagine massages, long walks on the Rio de Juventud (Youthful River) and naps in the afternoon.  We could get used to this!!!
