Waking Up Slowly in Cusco

First day in this beautiful city high in the Andes, and it is not unusual to feel a bit uneasy from the altitude.  The locals recommend several cups of coca tea, followed by chewing the coca leaf to get our bodies and minds adjusted. We're just following instructions!!

We are staying in a charming small hotel called Encantada . . . up on a hillside overlooking this beautiful valley of tile roofs, large domed cathedrals, parks and puffs of chimney smoke.  It is surprisingly brisk up here in the mountains, but makes for a lovely morning to get up slowly, drink tea, and have breakfast.

Next up, spa and massages (to adjust to the altitude, of course).

It is Shelly's pre-birthday weekend, and it is turning out perfectly!!  More later.
