Went with some of my Spanish language class diplomat colleagues to the National Mall this afternoon to observe the immigration reform rally, and speak Spanish with the hundreds of folks there. We were treated to the music of Los Tigres del Norte and heard rallying speeches from politicians, preachers, and pundits. LOTS of good Spanish practice! Then we picked up and marched on the Capitol building, whose inhabitants were making scant progress on getting the government running again. Immigration reform is not a language the Congress speaks, and is probably way down the priority list . . .
