Shelly and I had a lovely evening recently with dinner at Jaleo, followed by Don Quixote at the Synetic Theater right here in Crystal City. Jaleo specializes in tapas, and "the spirit and flavors of Spain". Their menu includes paella and lots of small plates of delicate flavors. A friendly wait staff and prompt service makes this place way up on our list of Washington area favorites. Jaleo is a 10 minute walk from our apartment. From there, we walked to the Synetic Theater for the showing of Don Quixote, in a way we'd never seen before. The Synetic Theater features a very physical style of theater, featuring dance, athleticism, gymnastics, mime, stage combat, in a very unique and engaging combination. Don Quixote was positively captivating in his innocent, well-meaning tilting at windmills, while his Sancho Panza was everything a best supporting actor should be. In short, we had a lovely time and were richly entertained. While we get ready for our tour overseas, we are trying to pack in all the cultural and gastronomic delights this area has to offer. Today, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the National Mall!
